The Grand Old Lady

Balsam, NC

The Grand Old Lady Hotel was originally named Balsam Mountain Inn, located in Balsam NC. Construction on the inn began in 1905 and was completed in 1908. The inn sits at 3,500 foot elevation at Balsam Gap close to the borders of Jackson and Haywood counties. The inn was built by Walter Christy and Joseph Kenney for guests that enjoyed summertime mountain activities including fishing and hunting. Most guests at that time arrived by train.
